Marcel is a film producer from Miami, FL, and a 1st generation Cuban-Peruvian American. His work focuses on diverse stories from different cultures, backgrounds, and LGBTQIA identities to put people of color and women at the forefront of the media. Before realizing his passion for film, Marcel studied mechanical engineering and robotics at Florida International University. He studied and performed improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles and New York City.
He has produced three features: The Way You Look Tonight (distributed by Gravitas Ventures and Official Selection at Dances With Film Festival, Nominated for Best Feature at Cinequest Film Festival, and received the Peach Award at Atlanta Film Festival), I Before Thee (available on Amazon, distributed by Bridgestone Multimedia). His latest feature La Leyenda Negra (official selection 2020 Sundance Film Festival, OutFest LA, BFI Flare, IndieLisboa, and Festival MIX Milano) is currently streaming on HBO Max and HBO Latino and was nominated for the Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award as well as the GLAAD Media Award (Outstanding TV Movie) in 2021.
He has also produced two music videos and several short films, including: Mal Culo, Inés Unfortunately, Good Girl & Diego On My Mind, with films well-received in festivals around the world. Marcel’s short documentary project, Piñata Prayers won the 2022 BlackStar Pitch competition receiving an artist grant and support from Warner Bros. Discovery’s OneFifty.
At his day job, Marcel works as a Producer at Create Advertising, where he produces marketing content and digital assets for clients such as Disney, Pixar, Apple, and more.
Outside of work, Marcel enjoys performing improv, indoor rock-climbing, brewing Cuban coffee, traveling, and producing and editing the comedy podcast Witch, Yes!
